Lots of historic facts “hammered” into the story, lots of humoristic attempts that didn’t work for me, all of this in a first person narrative, namely Ottavia, who never convinced me as a character – as well as Farag “too good to be true” Boswell.

The Last Cato

Either the translation is somewhat lacking or the author’s got a tin-ear for conversation. Ok ok ok I enjoyed this book much more than my rating would indicate. As other churches around the world reel from the theft of their fragments of the Cross, Ottavia and the others rush to join this hidden order so they can stop the ultkmo and confront the enigmatic leader of the group, Cato. With the help of a member of the Swiss Guard and a renowned archaeologist, Dr.

Una obra totalmente recomendable si te gustan los libros de aventuras. Once in the mode of interpreting Dante as a roadmap to solving seven deadly puzzles, I found the matilfe to become a bit boring. To ask other readers questions about The Last Catoplease sign up. Though well- researched and densely plotted, the story telling itself lags sometimes. Al final hasta me ha gustado!!

The Last Cato (Catón, #1) by Matilde Asensi

Want to Read saving…. I thoroughly enjoyed this, even though I hated The Divine Comedy, because of the adventure and give and take between the trio. Over the years, fragments of the Cross have czton out of their reach, to churches all over Europe. I loved the premise of this book and a mythical order of the Staurofilakes who protect the True cross over the centuries. Dec 07, Jaidee rated it it was ok Shelves: Other books in the series. She specializes in ancient manuscripts and research, and therefore she’s stunned when her superiors need her expertise in a new assignment – identifying unusual tattoos on the corpse of a dead Ethiopian.

I really like books that cross catno cleverly but this 2.

But I will still recommend this piece to everyone who has an appetite for biblical mysteries, or plain mystery for that matter.

However, ultmio book depended too much on slapstick, silly humor and cheezy romance to gel things together. The Swiss Guard remains manly and somewhat of a pointless spoke in their wheel.

One of the Staurofilakes’ most prominent members was Dante Alighieri, and Ottavia and her team soon realize that Dante hid secrets about the Staurofilakes in the text of ‘The Divine Comedy,’ his greatest work.

The truth of the matter really is that I may well be categorized asenso one of those people who has lutimo tired of biblical mystery themed literature. Jan 27, Vaso rated it it was amazing. Overall, I found this to be a B-level thriller, not on a level with The DaVinci Code, in which interest was better sustained for the duration.

It’s a curious thing that the author based this story on The Divine Comedy by Dante more specifically on the Purgatory12 years before Dan Brown did the same this time with the Inferno. Return to Book Page.

El Ultimo Caton : Matilde Asensi :

En route, the nun gets horny, abandons her faith, and shacks up with the archaeologist. It’s neither a proper historical thriller nor a very good crime novel.

I can’t explain my lack of enthusiasm towards this book. There are improbable protagonists who speak particularly improbably. She has more than 20 million readers worldwide and has become the reference adensi quality bests-sellers in Spanish language.

There’s a nun working in the Vatican archives and there’s a Swiss Guard and a Coptic polyglot archaeologist, and the three of them are tasked with the investigation into a dead body found decorated with strange symbols and crosses. Those who are familiar with it will find themselves revisited by overwhelming claustrophobia in places, reliving the Vatican’s removal of any and all air, fresh or otherwise. To complicate things more, the dead man was carrying along bits of the True Cross – the one Jesus died upon – and bears scarification that suggests a long-lost religious order may not be lost after all.

The story revolves around the search for the True Cross that Jesus Christ was crucified on. We know they will succeed. Apr 19, tara rated it it was ok.

El Ultimo Caton

The Last Cato also happens to be an intelligent critique of the Roman Curia as well as a lively page turner. Want to Read Currently Reading Read.

And it’s hard for me to say matildr, because Asensi’s writing has more quality than Brown’s the construction of phrases, the richness of vocabularybut the truth is I never felt engrossed by the book – and that made its reading lukewarm and emotionless, ruining all asenis rest for me. No estoy muy convencida con el asunto de la Roca, pero supongo que lo han dejado un poco abierto para poder sacar un segundo libro.
